Singapore 4

Sitting in the SATS lounge at the airport, and have just spent an hour trying to sort out the photo problem.  I'm struggling!  I'm sure it can be done on the iPad, but I just need a brain!

For the moment I'm only going to post text, as that's easy, although I have some super photos just waiting to burst on to the posts.

We visited the Botanic Gardens again this morning, this time starting at the Tanglin Gate, the opposite side from which we had approached on Thursday.  Well, it was supposed to be morning, but a slight misunderstanding meant that we spent quite a while getting from the MRT (underground) to the Botanic Gardens themselves, with an unexpected bus ride involved too!

No matter, it was all good, and we were treated to some super 'Wildlife Photographer of the Year - Singapore photos' as well as the Swan Lake, with lovely statues, many rare trees, frangipani (a few in bloom), trees with interesting bark, lovely water lilies and a cheeky water bird (I WILL identify him!) who skipped over the leaves on the pond surface to drink water and preen himself!

I knew about the huge diversity in Equatorial flora, and also that the tree leave can be pretty large.  I didn't realise how large, though, as illustrated here, and my foot isn't small!

Other news:
- Harry, part of the family with whom we've been staying, was swimming at the National Championships this weekend.  He gets up at some unearthly hour to train each day, and it's obviously a paid off, as he set two personal bests today, knocking a second off his 50 metres backstroke and FIVE seconds off his 400 metres freestyle best.  Wow!
- On a slightly less lofty level, I've been looking at the number of steps I've been walking, thanks to a phone app.  I think 10,000 is a good target, and managed over 15,000 today.  I'm thinking of getting a Fitbit, so I can count all those steps when my phone is not with me!  Maybe.
