NUNN NICER

Turned round on escalator at halftime at the Opera House to glimpse Sir Trevor Nunn (90 percent certain it was him)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trevor_Nunn now 77 but active as ever, not least in bringing Cats to the stage once more 36 years after he directed it on its debut in London.

Tuesday's performance proved as brilliant as ever with stunning choreography, vocals, lighting, costume and sets - a theatrical treat for a full house of around 1,900 in this brilliant new venue which opened last year after a 3-year build.

Interesting notes in the programme from Andrew Lloyd Webber detailed how TS Eliot's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats", read to him by his mother as a bedtime story when he was 6, became the show's inspiration a quarter of a century later.

Now largely forgotten snippet is that Judi Dench was cast as the original "Grizabella" (with the signature hit "Memory") only to snap a tendon during rehearsals and be replaced by Elaine Paige, fresh from "Evita."

Superb way to end lovely week. Singapore next stop.

Victor Meldrew writes: Great setting but £14 for a glass of wine at the interval !
