Harking back to Kranji racecourse where betting-wise we did quite well thanks to our neighbours (!) a few other words in its praise generally.
Top-class facilities, impressive grandstand and good racing for just £2.50p entrance fee - about 15 to 20 per cent what it costs in GB plus excellent value food court with all the eats and drinks at working man's prices.
Jockeys in action on the night included two 50-year-old veterans, Briton Alan Munro and Frenchman Gerald Mosse, who both won plenty of big races in Europe back in my reporting days.
I particularly remember Munro winning the 1991 Epsom Derby on a horse called Generous because I backed him at 9-1
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ 1991_Epsom_Derby -- and I don't think I've backed a Derby winner since !
Had a couple of sentimental bets on both men on Friday and Mosse almost won the last, making most of the running only to be collared on the line.
C'est la vie, as he may have said.
